About The Green House Project
The Green House
Project is focused on finding the balance between the ideal “green” home and
the traditional, conventional home. Philosophically, we would love to
build a home that has as little impact on our environment as possible both
during and after construction, but in many cases we are limited. We are
constrained by both knowledge and the availability of products, but we are
mainly constrained by the budget of the builder and home buyer. These
constraints lead to our effort to achieve the most “green” home for our
buck.
The
home builder, Fred Grim, of Denali Group has extensive building experience but
has just recently begun learning about “green” building. The project
chronicles the journey through each step of the process as Fred attempts to
incorporate “green” aspects into the home without allowing the costs to exceed
the budget. The options from which Fred has to choose span the gamut of
conventional to very “green” and provide the viewer with a list of
possibilities for ways to incorporate “green” elements into a new home, remodel
or addition. The initial cost differentiation and potential future
savings amongst the products are shown to help viewers understand why we made a
specific decision and how that decision may fit within the scope of his or her
personal budget.
We
understand that not everyone has the ability or opportunity to build a new
home, or remodel or add on to an existing home, and we do not want that to be a
limiting factor in your ability to help protect our environment.
Therefore, we have also provided the viewer with many simple ways that you can
reduce your carbon and water footprint while also reducing your annual utility
costs. We know that every little bit helps, so we want to help you to do
your part.
