Go Green

The word “Green” has become ubiquitous in the last couple of years as individuals and businesses attempt to make decisions based on considerations of environmental implications.  The rise of atmospheric CO2 levels has been linked to increased temperatures and climatic changes that NOAA scientists have indicated is irreversible for 1,000 years.  Furthermore, many sources have implicated CO2 from human sources as the major cause of the increased level.  Whether or not one agrees with this situation which can seem nebulous or intangible, examples of our negative impact on our environment are clear.  For example, waterways have become polluted with run-off from farms and factories, bodies of water have become polluted with solid waste such as plastic bottles and bags that could otherwise be recycled, square miles of forests have been razed, ecosystems have been severely damaged, genetically diverse and fundamentally integral species are threatened amongst others, and we have become dependent on non-renewable resources.

Awareness of our impact on our environment is usually accompanied with an overwhelming feeling of despair until one realizes the breadth of people who are finding ways to lessen and ultimately improve our impact on our environment.  This change is coming in the form of both lifestyle adjustments and new and improved technologies which help us approach our environment as we would any relationship on which we depend: with respect and care.  The options that have become available to consumers are extensive, yet complex and sometimes costly.  This is where The Green House Project hopes to help.

The Green House Project focuses mainly on the area where people spend a good deal of time: their home.  We understand that making domestic decisions is difficult on many levels, so we have helped to ameliorate that problem in several ways.  First, we have displayed a wide range of options available to home owners and builders, some of which are better for our environment than others.  Second, we have chosen a particular product from these subsets based on both its environmental impact and financial constraints as many home owners and builders might experience.  Finally, we have incorporated easy measures you can take to positively impact the environment that do not require building a new home or undertaking a major overhaul to your current home.  We hope the aggregate effect of encouraging viewers to make small changes will amount to a tremendous impact that will not only help you live a healthy and more economical life, but also one which encourages the sustainable health of our environment.
