Beliefs

I believe that humans are inextricably linked with the environment in many ways—some of which are obvious and others which are not. This interconnectedness causes me to approach the environment with the “Golden Rule” just as I approach other human beings. This idea may be difficult to grasp because we rarely see the environment as a living, breathing entity, but it is. And while it may not have the ability to reason, it possesses years upon years of responses to conditions that have essentially created these “skills for survival”. I think that selfish aims and goals are behind the current problems with the environment as they have been behind similar problems in many human civilizations of the past. But, in our lifetimes, this anthropocentric view has been coupled with industrial and technological innovations which have exacerbated the rate and magnitude of environmental damage. Ironically, I think it is the same selfish means that are going to help remedy the situation because I am fairly confident that the global ecosystem will restore its balance in time at our expense. So, if we, as humans, want to continue living in relative climatic stability for years to come, it is critical that we take steps to reduce our impact on the environment
